Read Psalm 100
What 6 reasons does the psalmist give to praise God? Do these apply to “all the earth” or just to “his people”? What responsibilities are involved in knowing that the Lord is God (v. 3)? What attitude characterizes God’s people (vv. 4-5)? Why is thanksgiving a public, communal event? Which reason most motivates you to praise God?

Prayer for the week
Lord Jesus, it wasn’t our idea to follow you. It was your idea that we should come, follow you, and be your disciples. We are here because you have summoned us, enlisted us to work with you.  Lord, the work to which you have called us is far too great for our meager abilities. There is so much evil in this world, so much injustice, oppression, sickness and death.  We are overwhelmed, we can’t cope, we lose heart, and we tire out.
That’s one reason why we come to church, Lord, to be reinvigorated for the tasks that you set before us. Give us the gifts we need to do your work, empower us with your life-giving Spirit. Strengthen our weak wills. You have called us to work with you, now good Lord, give us what we need to be faithful in that work. Amen.
