Read Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30
Jesus chides people who find fault with both his ministry and that of John the Baptist. He thanks God that wisdom and intelligence are not needed to receive what God has to offer. How do the people respond to John? To Jesus? How are they like the children pictured here? Why is the Gospel hidden from the “wise and the learned” (v. 25)? What does Jesus mean by taking up his “yoke” (v. 29)? What is the “rest” he promises to those who do?
Prayer for the week
We rejoice, O Christ, for in your tender compassion you shoulder our burdens and ease our heavy hearts. Give us the strength to carry each other as you have carried us. Amen
