Read Judges 4:1-7
Deborah was a prophetess and judge, who, with her general, Barak, led a victorious holy war against a stronger Canaanite force from the north. What familiar cycle is repeated here (see 4:1-3, 3:7-11, 3:12-15, 6:1-7)? What made Deborah a leader in a man’s world? Read how this story ends (it’s pretty gruesome!): Judges 4:1-5:31.
A Prayer for the week
Righteous God, our
merciful master, you own the earth and all its peoples, and you give us all
that we have. Inspire us to serve you with justice and wisdom, and prepare us
for the joy of the day of your coming, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and
Lord. Amen.
